INCREASED CHARGES
WANGANUI HARBOUR BOARD HIGHER SHIPPING DUES STAFF SALARIES RAISED Rising costs in adnKnistration were reflected in increased charges and expenditure decided on by the Wanganui Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday. All shipping due and pilotage charges are to be raised by 10 per cent, and it was decided that, owing to the new industrial conditions operating, the services of another pilot were necessary. Another man is to be engaged at a salary of £312 per annum, increasing to £350, with a house allowance of £5O. It was also decided that the salaries of five members of the staff be increased to the extent of £l7O per annum. The charges for the services of the tug are to be at the rate of £l5 for each occasion on which the vessel is used instead of £l2 10s as formerly. The cost of the radiophone service is to be increased from £2 5s to £3. It was stated that owing to the increased overhead costs the fees for various services had had to be increased.
