Mr. W. J. Gibson Hughes was reelected president at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Tourist and Development League last evening.

The position of registrar of Auckland University College was filled yesterday when Mr Lawrence O. Desborough, of Wellington, was appointed by tlie college council to succeed Mr R. O'Shea. Mr Desborough was selected front 35 applicants.

A motion ot sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. A. T. Uavell, a former treasurer of the league, was carried at last night's annual meeting of th ■ Wanganui Tourist and Development League.

Delegates at the annual meeting of the West Coast Centre annual meeting last evening stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr. A. W. Travis, delegate of the West Coast Centre to the N.Z.A.A.A. Council.

Mr F. I. Jones was the speaker at yesterdays' luncheon of the Wangaganui Rotary Club when he narrated a number of humorous anecdotes of life in Wanganui 50 and 60 years ago. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Rotarian A. G. Bignell.

At the animal meeting of the West Coast (N. 1. Athletic Centre held last evening, Mr. W. Rusden was reelected secretary and treasurer. The president of the centre, Mr. G. A. Benson, spoke briefly, eulogising the services of Mr. Rusden and said how he did his best at all times to further sport in this part of the Dominion.

Sympathy with Mr. D. E. Dustin in his illness was expressed by the Wanganui Tourist and Development League at its annual meeting last evening. Mr. Dustin was president of the Wanganui and District Development League before its amalgamation with the Tourist League and was responsible for the formation ot the Youths' Afforestation Camp.

Mr. C. F. Taylor, a member of the staff of the railway workshops at East Town, wh-* has been transferred to the Hutt workshops, left Wanganui yesterday to take up his new position. Mr. Taylor was a pilot member of the Wanganui Aero Club and a member of the Ruapehu Ski Club, being a ski-ing instructor at National Park for some years.

Mr. J. Miller, who has been treasurer of the Wanganui Tourist and Development L.ague since its formation and treasurer ot the old Wanganui and District Development League, was farewelled by members of the league at the annual meeting last evening. Mr. Miller, who has keen transferred to Pukekohe, was the recipient of a presentation from the president, Mr. W. J. Gibson Hughes. Tributes to Mr. Miller's services as treasurer and his enthusiasm for the work of the Youths’ Afforestation Camp were paid by the president and Messrs. W. J. Gilberd and F. C. Mackie.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr C. W. Poynter was carried at yesterday’s luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club. A tribute to Mr Poynter's worth as a Rotarian and as a citizen was paid by Rotarian A. G. Bignell, who said that the late Mr Poynter had done much for Wanganui in a quiet , way. He was a loyal citizen and his loss to the city was a severe one. The president, Rotarian A. McSkimming, said that the late Mr Poynter had lived up to the ideals of Rotary both in his private and business life.
