TRENTHAM CANDIDATES DEPARTURE TO-DAY W ' an S aaui horses with engagements at the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting will leave for Trentham to-day, but the contingent will not be. as large as was expected earlier m the season, mainly owing to an epidemic of coughing. W. Rayner will take two only of Mr Currie’s horses, Relative and Minga. Mr L. G Paul will take Amigo, W. H. Dwyer will have Middle, and the Fordell trainer, D. T. Marks, wfl have Smoke Screen, Russian Ballet and Taurangi. Rehearsal will not fulfil his Wellesley Stakes engagement owing to his having a setback through a dry cough, but Mr Currie has Minga in the juveniles’ race.

Minga was sent along with Scarf Dance on Saturday morning over three furlongs on the outside of the course proper, drawing away at the finish to be two lengths in front, the lime registered being 37 2-ssec. The £ lat 'h was but it was a good effort on the part of the Limond filly, who has been improved by the two races she had at Ellerslie.

Relative was accompanied by Imposture over five furlong:’, and they finished together in Imiq 2 2-ssec., after taking 24sec. for the initial quarter. Relative races on Saturday at 1 rentham, but Imposture will not be seen out till Saturday of next week, when she will be one of Rayner’s team at the Rangitikei meeting. Middle is in good order for his Trentham engagements, the first of which will be the Rimutaka Hack Handicap on Thursday. Smoke screen is reported to have improved still further as a result of his, race in the Great Northern Guineas, in which he held Royal Chief off courageously. He will run in the Trentham Stakes on Saturday, and if all goes well with him he will take his place in the Harcourt Stakes next Monday. He will be ridden by B. H. Morris.

Russian Ballet is to carry Mr Russell Grace’s colours in the Wellesley Stakes, and Taurangi will have her first start, with Mr W. McA. Duncan’s colours up, in the Taita Handicap. Both are reported to have been working well at Fordell.

Amigo slipped over five furlongs on Saturday morning in Imin. 3 2-ssec., taking 50 2-ssec. over the last four furlongs. He is to contest the Wellesley Stakes on Thursday.
