Ideal weather conditions and a fast track favoured the second day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s second spring meeting, held at Avondale to-day. There was a good attendance and the totalisator handled £19,941, compared with £18,923 last year, an increase of £lOlB. The total for the meeting was £51,402 10s, compared with £46,285 last year, an increase of £5117 10s. Results: — OCTOBER HURDLES (Of £175; 11 miles. 1— Englishman, 10.8, L. Neck; one and a-quarter lengths. Time, 2.6 2-5. Fersen was quickly in the lead from Armacourt, Con Fuoco, Jonathan, Tybalt and Bonny Gay, who was blocked out when the Held settled down. Con Fuoco joined Fersen in the lead and they carried on the running. Fersen and Con Fuoco came into the straight together. A furlong from the post Jonathan attempted to go through on the rails but was badly checked. However, an opening came a little later and he got through to win by a neck from Fersen, who beat Aiinacourt by a length and a-quarter. WAITEMATA HANDICAP (Of £275; if miles.) Orate and Trilliarch wehe in charge entering the straight from Tosh, Tray Bit and Triune. Trilliarch ran on strongly at the finish to score by a length from Tosh, who defeated Tray Bit by a head.
