CONCERT
IN AID OF SHTMAHL’G POOL FOR NURSES AT HOSPITAL The delightful concert held by the nursing staff of the Wanganui Hospital on Thursday night in aid of the swimming pool for the nurses was repeated on Friday evening when there was another large attendance. A noticeable feature was the authentic frocking for the plays, more particularly in the first play, “Two Naughty Old Ladies.” The staff went to considerable trouble in procuring frocks and furnishings. Much amusement was provided by the “Scarecrow Ballet” danced by six of the nurses. The whole programme was excellent and all lhe performers acquitted themselves with credit and provided those present with a very enjoyable evening. At the conclusion of Friday’s performance presentations were made by the nurses to Lhe matron, Miss Hunter, the sub-matron, Sister Bakewell, and Sister Wilcox. Those responsible for the organising of the entertainment are to be congratulated on the success of the effort. On behalf of those present and in the unavoidable absence of Mr. Broderick, chairman of the Hospital Board, the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, thanked the nurses for providing such a delightful evening and congratulated them on giving the hospital a lead in the matter of providing a swimming pool. It was gratifying to the board to see that the nurses were out to help themselves and he assured them the board would do what it could to assist. Although he, as only one member of the board, was unable to make any promises, at the same time he expressed a hope that by this time next year the swimming peol would be an established fact. A dainty suppet served by the nurses brought to a close a very pleasant evening. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Rogers, Dr. and Mrs. Widdowson, Mr. Hope Gibbons, Mr. and Mrs. Rule, Dr. and Mrs. Hark-
