OHAKUNE

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The usual monthly meting of the Ohakune Chamber of Commerce, which was held at the Plunket Rooms, Ohakune, was presided over by Air E. E. Purdon. Others present, were Dr. Jordan and Alessrs Adams, P. Rogel, G. Deadman, and G. Sergeant. Apologies for absence were received from Alessrs E. O. Lightband and W. F. Alahoney. On the motion of Messrs Deadman and Rogel it. was resolved that the secretary be appointed to operate the account of the chamber kept at the Bank of New Zealand, Raetihi, jointly with any one of the following members: Alesssr Purdon, Adams and Sargeant. It was proposed by Dr. Jordan, seconded by Mr Adams, that Air J. Jones be interviewed concerning the unsatisfactory and mis'eading condition of the signboards at the northern end of the Tohunga Road and, if necessary, the secretary write to the Wanganui Automobile Association concerning it. In the event of a flower show being held it was decided, on the proposal of Mr Dcadman, that the secretary interview the headmaster of the school, and, if necessary, write to the Wanganui Education Board, to ascertain if the school hall could be utilised. OBITUARY MR J. T. A. HAVLER There passed away at the Raetihi Public Hospital on Friday morning, Mr John Thomas Arnold Havler, a highly esteemed resident of Ohakune, at the age of 48. The later Air Havler, who has been in business in Ohakune for the last seventeen years, was a very prominent and successful member of the Ohakune Bowling Club. He leaves a wife and daughter to mourn his loss. The burial took place at the Lakes Road cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
