DRIVER KIDNAPPED?
HIGHWAYMEN FEARED OPERATING IN VICTORIA (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Oct. 15. 11.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 15. The mysterious disappearance from one of the main Victorian country thoroughfares of a transport waggon laden with wool, tallow and skins valued at more than £l6OO has aroused a fear that the driver has been kidnapped and may have met with foul Play. John Dempsey, of the Darbyshire Transport Service, Carlton, left Bendigo late on Monday for Melbourne with a loaded transport. He was last seen in the vicinity of Kyne'.on, about half-way to Melbourne, since when he has not reported. A systematic search was fruitless.
The police state that highwaymen have been operating on the country roads and heavy losses of goods have been reported in recent months.
