MISS BATTEN DELAYED

OIL GAUGE FAILS ’PLANE AT WINTON SYDNEY, Oct. 15. Miss Jean Batten was forced to and at Winton because the oil gauge of the machine failed to function. About an hour earlier she passed over Winton aerodrome at a very fast speed, travelling north, but when about 100 miles from Winton she noticed that the gauge was not working, so she turned back. She intends to leave Winton this morning for Camooweal, cutting out Cloncurry, and then fly on to Darwin. belayed at comooweal. Received Oct. 15, 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 15. Miss Jean Batten, who left Winton at 6 a.m., was delayed at Comooweal owing to a severe dust storm. She expects to reach Darwin to-morrow, but probably will be unable to take off from Darwin for Egland before Sunday.
