GENEROUS BEQUESTS

RESIDUE OF £25,000 ESTATE AUCKLAND MAN’S WILL [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. Generous bequests to four Auckland religious organisations and to several English hospitals are made under the will of the late Mr. Ronald Edwin Prodgers, of Blockhouse Bay, who died on September 23. The net residue of the estate, of which the Public Trustee is the executor, is estimated at £25,000.

After payment of legacies and death duties the will stipulates that onethird of the residue is to be divided equally among the following eight institutions, each of which is to receive income on its share of the estate. They will each receive the equivalent of the annual interest on approximately £lOOO, in the meantime. The beneficiaries are:— Church of England’s Orphans’ Home, Papatoetoe, for general purposes. Auckland City Mission, for general purposes. The Sister Esther Benevolent Fund of the Presbyterian Church, Auckland, for work among the poor and needy. The vicar and church wardens of St. Saviour’s Church, Blockhouse Bay, for the building fund of the church. The Lock Hospital, Harrow Road, London, for general purposes. St. Mark’s Hospital, City Road, London, for general purposes. St. Dunstan's Home, Regent Park, London, for general purposes. Prince of Wales Fund for London Hospitals, for general purposes. On termination of a life interest the will provides for a division of the whole of the estate into 20 equal parts, eight of which are bequeathed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, for general purposes of the Consolidated Funds of the British Treasury, and a further four parts for the Minister of Finance in New Zealand for general purposes of the Consolidated Funds of the New Zealand Treasury. The remainder will be divided equally among the eight organisations mentioned previously. Born at Kington, St. Michael, Wiltshire, in 1863, Mr Prodgers was able to trace a lineal descent from Edward Prodgers, Groom of Chambers to King Charles 11. The family was a noted sporting and exploring one.
