SPRING RACING

NOTES AND REMINDERS TRENTHAM ACCEPTANCES Racing in the Dominion will take place at Masterton and Aovndale tomorrow. The Caulfield Cup will be run on the concluding day of the V.A.T.C. meeting at Caulfield to-morrow. A Melbourne cable states that Mr Sol Green’s stallion Lo Zingaro is to be sent foi' a six months’ holiday to New Zealand. It is understood that he comes to the Grange Stud. Acceptances for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting close at 5 p.m. to-day. Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for the Waverley Racing Club’s meeting on Labour Day, October 25, close with the secretary, Mr. J. C. Gray, P.O. Box 9, ’phone 18, Waverley, at 8 p.m. on Monday next, October 18. With the stakes raised all round the programme for the main events of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting on December 27 and 29 and January 1 and 3 is the best for many years. The Auckland Cup is now worth £2550, the Railway Handicap £lOOO, King’s Plate £550, Summer Cup £750, A.R.C. Handicap £lOOO, Grandstand Handicap £750, and the Clifford Plate £550. Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for these events close with the secretary, Mr. W. S. Spence, 97 Shortland Street, Auckland, at. 5 p.m. today.

Progeny of Beau Pere filled first and, second places in the juveniles’ event at Masterton yesterday, Gay Son and Peerless both being by the Son-in-Law horse. Arvakur and Amigo, winners at Ellerslie and Marton respectively, are both by Beau Pere. If Mr. John Donald had still been the owner of Beau Pere he would have been “sitting pretty” for the Trentham yearling sales. * * * * The Masterton winner, Gay Son, could not act in the heavy going at Marton, where he was installed favourite in the race Amigo won. Gay Son is a brown colt by Beau Pere from that good Lord Quex —Lady Ball mare La Moderne, and he will race in the interests of his breeder, Mr. A. F. M. Symes, of Hastings, who was represented in the Wanganut Debutant Stakes by Screen Lord. Gay Son is the first offspring of his dam, who, besides being full-sister to that crack two-year-old Gay Ballerina, was a fine two and three-year-old herself, her successes including the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes in Dominion record time for a mile and three-quarters.

When Black Duke, now fifteen years old, started in the Wakari Hurdles at Wingatui on Saturday he contested his 237th. race. His record stands at 47 wins, 32 seconds, and 25 thirds, for £8422 in stakes.

Besides being successfully represented at Ellerslie by Protector, the imported sire Lord Warden also had another juvenile winner in Australia last Saturday when Normal won the Debutant Stakes at Caulfield. Normal is by Lord Warden from Knocklynn, dam of Knockfin, and was purchased at the Trentham yearling sales last January by J. T. Jamieson for 350 guineas.

Avenger, winner of the A.J.C. Derby will be ridden by D. Munro in the Victoria Derby, to be run on October 30. E. Bartie rode Avenger in the A.J.C. Derby, but as he does the riding for J. T. Jamieson's stable when the weight permits, and that trainer has Lynch Law in the Victoria Derby, Bartie is not available for Avenger. Avenger’s rider in the Caulfield Guineas last Saturday was H. Badger, so the colt is having plenty of changes. AVONDALE MEETING TRACK PREPARATIONS YESTERDAY'S GALLOPS [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. The course proper, 50ft. out from the rails, was available for the final gallops of the Avondale candidates at Ellerslie this morning, and the going was in good order. Kelly ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the first two furlongs taking 27 2-5 sec. Captain Bruce brought him home over the last four which took 52 l-ssec. Gallio traversed seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5, after covering the first three in 47 4-ssec. He did his work well. Grand Dance and Jollie Broney, after beginning slowly at the halfmile post, came home in 55 4-ssec., finishing together. Te Hero was better than Silver Cloud at the finish of half a mile run in 51sec. Te Hero worked well. Aero Queen and High Star, after running three furlongs in 41 3-ssec., completed six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Land Girl and My Money occupied 1.6 4-5 for five furlongs, after traversing the first two in 27 2-ssec. Te Hai was in front of Tybalt over six furlongs in 1.20 3-5, the first three being run in 40sec. Fersen beat Rainier over five furlongs run in 1.5 2-ssec. Ringshot was in front of Privy Seal at the finish of six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. the first three taking 51 2-ssec. Englishman and Siega jumped away at the mile post and were timed to run their last five furlongs in 1.9 3-5. Kiltowyn went easily over a round, taking 2.12 2-5. He did not have a great deal of pace on at any stage. Jonathan completed a similar task in 2.4 4-5, the last half-mile taking 52sec. He was brought home over the last five furlongs by Bass. At Avondale Track Fast work at Avondale was carried out on the course proper on which the poles were out 40ft., the going being excellent. There was not a great deal doing, but Sebrof, Tray Bit, and Triune were each responsible for fast sprints. Sebrof came home from the halfmile in 50 2-ssec. He put plenty of dash into his work, and it was a smart effort. Tray Bit impressed more than

Armacourt over a similar distance, which occupied 50 3-ssec. The two-year-old Gay Hussar sprinted down the straight, but was not timed. Mai de Mer strode over the last seven furlongs of his work in 1.38 1-5. He increased the pace over the last half-mile, which took 53 2-ssec. Erndale was allotted half a mile, which took 52 4-ssec. He was running on solidly at the end. Triune was going better than Alyth at the end of live furlongs in 1.5 1-5. The last half-mile took 51 1-5, find Triune was doing his work well at the end.

Gay Rebel was trotted twice round and he looks in nice order, but seemed to be just a trifle tender. The stablemates Airam and Eastern Heir came home from the three furlong post in 41 2-5. They could have improved on the time.
