INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Intermediate School Committee was held in the school on Tuesday evening last. There were present Mrs Scott, Alessrs Buxton, Rochefort, Shires, Ralph, and Rev. Ker. Air Buxton was voted to the chair in the absence of Air Ammundsen, who was away on account of business. Apologies were also received from Mrs Comrie and Alessrs Rennie and Minnell.

Correspondent and other matters pertaining to the welfare of the school were dealt with by the committee. Air Rochefort, the principal of the school, reported that a number of the pupils had left since the beginning of the term. For the most part they were boys taking up positions. School Sports.—Basketball: The A grade competition for Wanganui schools was won by Ballance House of the Intermediate School. The Rugby A team won the primary schools’ competition. The soccer team won the Football Association's Challenge Cup and the soccer competition, in which the school had four teams. Swimming and life-saving will commence as soon as the baths are available. Air Rochefort also reported regarding the three one-act plays which were staged in St. Paul’s Hall on October 7 by Miss Cooke’s class and were very successful. Preparations are well under way for the operetta “Christmas Carol,” which the pupils will produce early in December. The closing ceremony for school year has been fixed for December 16. Dr. C. E. Beeby, director of the Council of Educational Re’search, has consented to be the speaker for the evening.
