WEST COAST CENTRE ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON In the sixth annual report of the West Coast Centre (N. 1. of the N.Z.A.A.A., which is to be presentea at the meeting to be held next week, a good financial position is discloseo. Athletic clubs in the centre, which held open meetings experienced a bad season owing to the inclement weather conditions and the report, under the Mrcumstances, can be considered to m? a good one. The report states:— “Delegates to New Zealand Council.—Your executive wishes to place on record its appreciation of the services of Messrs G. S. Leeder and A. W. Travers. "West Coast Championships—These were controlled very ably by the Levin Athletic Association and Cycling Club, who were indeed very unfortunate in striking wet weather on the day. Your executive wishes to place on record its congratulations to all title-winners.

"National Track and Field Championships.—This meeting was held in Auckland and your centre was represented by one of the largest teams ever sent from this centre. All members performed with credit. Two members, A. J. Maher (high jump) and S. Lay (javelin) gained a New Zealand title, and B. Campbell, C. V. Evans and J. D. Morgan were run-ners-up in their respective events. "West Coast Harrier Championships.—These were conducted by the Marton Harrier Club, who deserve the thanks of this centre for the splendid arrangements made. "Mr C. Weller, of the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. Club, again won the individual title, while the Marton Club repeated last year’s success in annexing the teams’ title. The Wanganui Harrier Club was successful in the B grade teams’ race. "New Zealand Cross-country Championships.—Your centre was represented by a very well-balanced team. This team succeeded in gaining third place in the teams’ race and is to be congratulated on this performance. Mr C. Weller again won the New Zealand individual title, to whom congratulations are extended. In connection with this event it is worthy of note that the centre team included

five members of the Marton Harriei Club. "The 1937-38 Season.—ln view oi the Empire Games being held in Sydney the coming season should prove a very successful one, and it is hoped that all athletes will do their utmost in helping a team away by furthering the sale of the art union tickets issued by the N.Z.A.A.A.”
