SHARK ATTACKS
FISHERMEN ALARMED BOAT LIFTED OUT OF WATER LONDON, Sept. 11. Sharks are causing alarm in Scottish waters. A second attack in three days occurred this week. The Lady Charlotte of Campbeltown had secured a catch of herrings off the Arran coast, and was on her way to Ayr to market the fish, when a member of the crew who was near the stern saw a huge shark charge at the boat. The shark struck the propeller a glancing blow. The stern of the boat was lifted 3ft. out of the water by the impact and came down again with a crash, fortunately on an even keel. The crew saw the shark pass underneath their keel at an angle, and as it disappeared they were able, by the gleam of the mast lights, to follow its trail for some time.
The Clyde Fishermen’s Association is to ask the Admiralty to send a destroyer to shell the huge sharks which have invaded the west coast of Scotland in vast numbers this year.
