CENTRAL BRANCH The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui ceitral branch of the Women’s Christian Union was held in Trinity Church Parlor on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Laird led the devotions. Mrs A. Duxtield was in the chair and welcomed the visitors and friends. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Two new subscribers were gained for the “White Ribbon.” An article on the work done by the northern unions amongst the Maoris was read by Mrs Beggs. Items were given by a team of Maori women from Putiki. Mrs Marumaru gave a much appreciated talk on flax dressing and mat making. Madam Edmondson rendered two solos and Miss D. Hughes a violin solo. Proceeds from the “bring-and buy” stall amounted to £3 16s 6d. The church parade is to be held in St. Paul’s Church on Sunday, October 17, at 11 a.m. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who so kindly gave items. Afternoon tea was served. The meeting closed with the Benediction.
