ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS
CONFERENCE OPENED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The conference of the Electric Supply Authority Engineers’ Association opened to-day. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, referred to the great growth of electrical development. Today New Zealand had a network of services supplying to thousands and thousands of the community electricity at a price which compared favourably with any other part of the world. The view that it would be a retrograde step to hand over the control of the electrical industry in New Zealand to a central authority, was expressed by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. He thought that it would be the worst possible step for the community as a whole, as the basis of all true Democratic Government was to keep the localities as far as possible in control of their own affairs.
