“WE HAVE TO AMUSE OURSELVES INSIDE,” SAYS “HILLY HOLLY HANDY.”

Dear Wendy,—l am very sorry that I have not written to you before, but please forgive me and let me into your warm Hut. Hasn’t the weather been dreadful lately? It has been too wet even for my brothers and I to go outside, so we have to amuse ourselves inside. On Coronation Day, when I went to school, I took my brother, aged six, with me. When we reached the school we were just in time to sing “God Save the King.” After that my brother and I were given our badges, as the other pupils had already received theirs. Did you know that “Just Dot” is going away soon 9 The brilliant colours that were in my garden about a week ago are beginning to fade from my sight and they will not appear again until next spring.—Your loving Ite, “HILLY HOLLY HANDY,” Parewanui. Yes, dear, the weather has been very changeable indeed, but before me know the glorious spring will be upon us and then we will have the warm, sunny days.
