QUEEN’S ILLNESS
MARIE OF RUMANIA USE OF SLIMMING TABLEI’S BUCHARES'I', June 1. Queen Marie's illness of March 15 is said to have been a direct outcome of the excessive use of slimming tablets. Without consulting her medical advisers, she is reported to have sent to London for tablets which should be used only on a doctor’s prescription, as they are likely adversely to affect the circulation. Queen Marie's use cf the tablets coincided with an attack of influenza, resulting in the formation of a bloodclot (phlebitis), which left her gravely ill for several days. A bulletin isued to-day by the Royal Physician states:— “Queen Marie needs a long rest. She is very anaemic in consequence of a haemorrhage on March 11; also a slight case of phlebitis of the left leg. which is now improving.”
