CHILDREN'S GARDEN CIRCLE

REPORT OF AISNUAL MEETING The Children’s Garden Circle held their annual meeting on Wednesday evening at the W.D.F.U. Rooms, a large number of parents and members attending. Mr Hector Christie (president) presided. The secretary read the annual report, dealing with the year's activities of the circle. Mr J. Cotterill, M.P., who was present, moved tne adoption of the report, and complimented the secretary on the complete and detailed report. The work that had been done reflected great credit on tlie officers and he was pleased to be associated with the movement. He had, he continued, a great love for gardening, and would, in ths future, take mucn more interest in horticulture. The financial statement was then presented by the secretary. Mr Hector Christie said the balance-sheet showed that the position was a very healthy one, and was evidence of tlie great amount ot work that had been carried out. He said the only word that would cover the activities of the secretary, organiser, and those associate with them, was “stupendous.” He would not labour the point, he said, as everyone knew the tremendous amount of work that was being done. The occasion was taken to present to Miss F. Clifton the certificate of merit awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society of England for diligent interest in plants. The secretary, Mr A. Weber-Tod-man, in making the presentation, said that he had been requested, as a Fellow ot the Royal horticultural Society to present the certificate on behalf of the R.H.S. Council, and to tender her their congratulations. The certificate, he continued, was not one that was won very easily, the R.H.S. requiring very full particulars before awarding it. The Rev. Dudley addressed the children present, reminding them that service to God and man was the paramount thing in life. The announcement was made at the meeting that 35 pupils at the Fordell School had been enrolled in the C.G.C. After the business ot the evening was over, the adults and children spent a very enjoyable time in dancing and games, Mrs Bish contributing a song; Miss Abernethy, violin solo; Miss Dorothy May, song; Misses Kathleen and Eileen Todman, piano duet; Miss Valerie Cox, a recitation, and Ivan Matson, recitation.
