HEMP AND TOW GRADINGS

Gradings of hemp and tow at Dominion ports last month showed a sharp decrease compared with those for May, 1936, the Igures being as follows:

The hemp graded last month was as follows: Good fair, 116 bales; high fair, 508 bales: low fair, 669 bales; common, 491 bales; rejected, 398 bales; condemned, 1 bale. Of the total, 727 bales were graded at Auckland, 687 at Wellington, 589 at Bluff, 41 at Picton, 29 at Blenheim, 54 at Port Chalmers and 56 at Romahapa.
