SHOCK TO RACEGOER

RETURN TO FIRE-SWEPT HOUSE ( Per Frets Association. 1 AUCKLAND, June 9. To find smoke-blackened bedding and badly-scorched furniture piled on the front lawn and the house with five rooms burned out, was the experience of Mrs A. L. Taylor, of Richardson Road, Mount Albert, when she returned from the races to-night. While she was away a fire had swept through the house, causing part of it Io collapse and severely damaging the front portion. Smoke rising from the back of the house was seen by so many people that the alarm was given three times, and brigades from five districts answered the call. The house, which was owned by Mrs Taylor, was a nine-roomed wooden building. It was insured for £5OO with the South British office and the furniture was insured for £lOO.
