WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
MEETING AT HUNTERVILLE The usual meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the school room on Wednesday last. Mrs R. A. Gordon presided over a good attendance of members and friends. The meeting opened with the singing of the “Ode to Friendship” and the “Aspirations.” A vote of sympathy was passed to two members who had suffered bereavement. Apologies were received from Mesdames Comrie, Bowick, Baker, Burnett, and Hallwood. Minutes were read and confirmed; also the financial statement was read. Miss Young, federation president, and Mrs Shanks, federation secretary, have been nominated as delegates to attend the round-table conference to be held in Wellington in lieu of the annual general meeting. It was proposed by members that £1 be donated towards expenses. Mrs Gordon then read the two minute report, which tied for second place. Mrs Walker, of Poukorie, then gave a demonstration on the art of renovating felt hats, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. I Tea was then served by Mesdames I Colman, Knuth, Moore, Morrow. I The social half-hour followed, during which Mrs Gordon recited and community singing was enjoyed. The winners for cocoanut ice were: Mrs Knuth 1 and 2. Mrs Ross was first for the best plain toffee. Miss Morrow being second and Mrs Knuth third. The singing of the National Anthem brought to a close a very happy meeting. Hostesses for July are Mesdames Anderson, Bowick, and .Misses Bowick and Comrie. The competition will be; Egglcss fruit cake, winner to give recipe. By way of diversion another competition. “Funniest hat,” to be worn by member, will be held.
