ARGENTINE APPLES
TRIAL SAMPLE ARRIVES BELOW N.Z. STANDARD [ Per Press Association. I HASTINGS, June 8A sample of the apples shipped from the Argentine to England and then forwarded to New Zealand for examination has landed in Hastings. Although all 12 apples came out of the same case which was marked “extra fancy," only half of them can claim sufficient colour, based on New Zealand standards, to warrant their classification in that grade. In fact some apples would hardly pass for "good grade,” there being practically no colour at all on some and on others only the slightest tinting. Some years ago New Zealand used to export quite considerable numbers of cases to the Argentine but in recent years this outlet has been closed and instead the Argentine has been developing a big trade with the Old Country. Last year, for example, some 340,000 cases were shipped to England from the Argentine.
