HOSPITAL STAFFS
THE FORTY-HOUR WEEK ADVICE BY DEPARTMENT GISBORNE, June 5. If the Cook Hospital Board at a special meeting to be held next week adoptj the advice of the Health Department regarding the application of the 40-r.our week to the stalling of the hospital and its allied institutions, a further £2550 will have to be added to the annual cost of conducting the institutions. The department has intimated plainly that it expects the hoard to apply the 40-hour week in the spirit of the recent legislation and to add the estimated extra cost to this year’s estimates.
The contributing local bodies already have received from the Cook Hospital Board the usual notices regarding estimates for the current financial year and there has been some criticism of the rise in costs necessitated by circumstances outside the control of the board. The prospect of an addition to the yearly total will not be welcomed, but the board may consider that it has no choice but to adopt the recommendation of the department.
