Handkerchief Afternoon The Makirikiri branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union arranged an enjoyable “handkerchief” party last Friday afternoon in honour of Miss Una Shield, whose marriage will shortly take place. The Phinket Ball The Plunket Society Ball, for which members of the committee have been working hard during the past week or more will take place this evening at the Collegiate School. Tickets are selling well and the success of the ball is now assured. Yesterday, some of the ball committee members spent a busy time arranging the decorations and the final preparations will be made to-dav. The committee wish to thank the following firms for further donations: Nancarrow’s, Cock and Co.. Johnstone and Co., Levin’s, Russell Bros.. Aerated Water Co.. Thomson and Lewis, Cutelli’s, and Woolworth’s. Pre-Wedding Party. A kitchen gift evening was given for Miss Kathleen Watson prior to her marriage last week, the host and hostess being Mr and Mrs J. W. Morris Watson, of Brunswick Road. The guests were entertained with games and musical items. The guest of honour was the recipient of many lovely and useful gifts. Those present included Mr and Mrs M. Watson, Mr and Mrs F. Caseley. Mr and Mrs J. H. Watson, Mr and Mrs Renz, Misses C. Wilson. D. K. Watson, J. and B. Watson. I. Harris, A. Rogers, E. and B. Harris, Stansfield, Beddick; Messrs R. Caseley. N. Atkins, G. Rogers, A. Harris, J. Thyne, Veare. A. Greig. Woolworth’s Staff Ball Woolworth’s annual ball will be held in Harman's Hall to-morrow evening, June 9. Many novelties will be included in the evening’s dance programme and an excellent orchestra has been ensapred.
