FATAL ACCIDENT
SKID ON FROZEN SNOW CONTRACTOR’S DEATH 1 (Special to “Chronicle.") , I TAIHAPE, June 6. When a three-seater car in which he was a passenger, skidded on frozen snow after negotiating a bend neai Mr. C. Jensen’s farm at Opaea, aboui four miles north of Taihape about 2 p.m. to-day. John Persson, contractor of Mangaweka, was killed. Persson was a married man with four children. The car driven by Persson's brother, whose wife also was accompanying them, was proceeding from Waiouru to Taihape and skidded into a creek at the side of the road. Persson was pinned under the vehicle and was deid when extricated. \ The driver and his wife were not injured. STRUCK BY CAR WATERSIDER'S DEATH. [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, June 8. Struck by a motor-car as he stepped from the kerb, apparently to cross the road on King Edward Parade. Devonport, on Saturday night, John Jones, a waterside worker, single, suffered severe head and internal injuries from which he died almost instantaneously. The car was driven by Douglas McLaren, of Devonport. Deceased was a returned soldier. STRUCK BY A ROCK FATALITY AT GISBORNE. [ Per Pres, Association. ] GISBORNE, June 5. The death has occurred in hospital of Mr. Charles August Evans, from injuries received on Wednesday when he was struck on the head by a falling rock when road cutting. The deceased, who was a native of Germany, came to New Zealand in 1904, and since 1910 has been farming at Otoko
