CITRUS INDUSTRY
PROGRESS AT TAURANGA ASSOCIATION’S ACTIVITIES TAURANGA, June 3. The steady progress of the citrus industry in the Tauranga district was shown at the annual meeting of the Tauranga Citrus Association, Limited, attended by 50 members. Mr. H. S. Benjamin presided. The report stated that L« the year ended March 31 the output showed an average net return of 6s 7d a case, as against 3s sid for the preceding year. A contract has been entered into for installing a heating, humidifying and air-conditioning* plant, by means of which it was expected the process of curing would be expedite'! and the life of the cured fruit extended. The total output of lemons for the year was 22,721 packed cases The amount paid to growers for lemons and grape fruit ard the sales from the by-products department amounted to £9760. A motion was carried unanimously supporting the recommendations of the Fruit Marketing Committee of Inquiry in so far as they relate to the citrus industry.
