CANADA LOYAL TO EMPIRE

May 22. “Canada, including its three million , rench-Canadian population, is as loya! to the Empire as any other Dominion, and there is no greater admirer of our loyalty than the people ■of America.” I That statement was made by the , Canadian Government Trade Commissioner (Lieut.-C neral L. Moore Cosgrave) yesterday when referring to the impression held in some quarters that Canada would one day break away from the Empire and link up with the United States. “Naturally, Canadians are very proud of their friendship with America," said the Commisioner. "We are, by our geological situation, able to interpret within the Empire the American viewpoint, because we know I how the Americans think about matters. “But that does not mean that Canada is lacking in Empire sentiment. On the contrary, the Canadian people are intensely loyal to the Empire and what it stands for, and when I say the Canaman people I include the FrenchCanadians. There is not the slightest chance of Canada forsaking the Empire, as will be shown beyond question if the Empire ever faces a crisis. "It is entirely wrong for anybody to imagine that America dominates Canadian policy.”
