The Government’s new proposal! for a tax on profits to yield £25,000,000 in a full financial year, in substitution for the national defence contribution scheme, which has been withdrawn, will, it is understood, be preceded by submission to the House of Commons of a financial resolution, the terms of which are engaging the attention of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Times says that It can be taken for granted that he will at once begin consultations on the new form of profits tax with representatives of trade and industry, and in particular with the special committee representative of the Associations of Cham' bers of Commerce, Federation of Brit- i ish Industries, the Corporation cf’ Lloyd's, Chamber of Shipping, Iron and Steel Federation, the Baltic, and other important bodies.
