GIRLS’ AUXILIARY CLUB On Thursday evening St. Andrew's Presbyterian Hall was filled to capacity when a most successful concert arranged by the Girls’ Auxiliary Club was presented. During the evening, Rev. E. R. E. Ross, on behalf of the Girls’ Auxiliary, thanked those present for their support, also the visiting artists, some of whom had travelled from Patea and Wanganui. He stated that the proceeds of the concert would be forwarded to assist the missionaries and teachers of the Presbyterian Church in India and North Hebrides. At the conclusion of the programme the performers were entertained to supper by the members of the Girls’ Auxiliary Club. The concert commenced with community singing, led by Mr Roy Don, Kohi, and the following programme was then presented: Playette, “Three Little Kittens,” tiny tots; vocal solo, Mrs Jones (Patea); instrument selection, Messrs Gifford and Sinclair; humorous sketch, “Scandal,” tiny tots; vocal solo, Mrs Corbitt (Patea); playette, “Three Little Pigs,” tiny tots; humorous vocal solo, Mr Carey (Patea); vocal quartette, Mesdames Corbett, and Carey and Messrs Jones and Boagey; humour at the piano, Mr Don, Kohi; vocal solo, Mr Jones (Patea); humorous sketch, Mr Bosher; vocal solo, “Good-bye,” by special request, Mr Bosher; vocal solo, Mrs J. Stewart; songs and hakas, Whenuakura Maori children; humorous recitation, Miss Joyce Hill; vocal solo, Mr R. Pigeon (Wanganui); pianoforte solo, Miss R. Shearman; vocal duet, Mr and Mrs Jones; song with words, Miss P. Rowe and Miss J. Hickman (Wanganui); flute solo, Mr K. Patterson (Wanganui); vocal solo, Miss M. Thompson (Wanganui); humorous recitation, Miss S. Bates (Wanganui); sketch from Tom Sawyer, Miss J. Hickman and Master Hugh Master (Wanganui); pianoforte solo, Mr Colin Horsley (W’anganui). The accompanists were Mrs Carey (Patea), Miss N. Mathieson, Mr J. Patterson (Wanganui), and Mr R. Don (Kohi). P.W.M.U. Mrs Flemming presided at the monthly meeting of the P.W.M.U. on Friday afternoon, when arrangements were finalised for the forthcoming flower show which is to be held on Friday, May 7, in the Town Hall. It was stated that Mrs Corrigan (Hawera) will give an address at the May meeting. The programme for the flower show is as follows: Chrysanthemums: Champion bloom (double); 2 double blooms, 1 pink or mauve, 1 yellow; 2 double blooms, and colour; 6 double blooms, any varieties, different colours; 3 best single blooms.
