SURPLUS IN VIEW
BRITISH I NEM PLOY ME NT INSURANCE [ Brkish Offic al Wirelesn. ] RUGBY, Dec. 24. The unemployment insurance statutory committee is at present examing the state of the insurance fund, a,nd it is anticipated that a surplus of £7,000.000 will be found to be available for disposal. Employment is good and the income of the fund is consequently high and its expediture relatively low. Following the usual practice when a surplus is in view, the statutory committee has called for suggestions. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress has recommended the abolition of the waiting week before benefit is paid, an increase of benefits. and the extension of the benefit period beyond the present 26 weeks.
