DROWNING FATALFD’
YOUNG MAN’S DEATH I Per Preus Association. ] INVERCARGILL, Dec. 27. ' Godfrey Baxendale Beissel, a married man aged about 22, residing in Invercargill, was drowned while bathing in the Waihopai River at Longbush this afternoon with three of his brothers-in-law, Hector, Malcolm and lan McKenzie, of Rimu. Beissel remained longer in the water than the others and twice sank before it was realised that anything was wrong. Hector McKenzie, the fact that he was unable to swim, went to the rescue but. was forced to struggle back to the bank. After three unsuccessful attempts to bring Beissel to the surface, help was then summoned. It was 4.45 p.m., however, before Nunn, farm labourer of Rimu, was able to recover the body Beissel was an employee in the mechanical department of the Southland News.
