CRICKET ON SUNDAYS

PERMISSION AT ELLERSLIE. AFTERNOON PLAY APPROVED. AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. Permission to play cricket on the Ellerslie Domain on Sundays was granted last night by the Ellerslie Town Board to a local cricket club. The club stated that it had been playing on Sundays in an adjoining district, but the members, who were Ellerslie residents, preferred to play on their own recreation reserve. "I have had to change my views of late years,” said Mr. S. Somerfield, in supporting the application. He said there was tennis and bowling played each Sunday in the district and cricketeres were entitled to the same privileges. Mr. H. I. Simson suggested that, play should be restricted to hours that did not clash with times of public workship. It was agreed unanimously to gran, permission on condition that play did not commence before noon.
