WANGANUI PROPOSAL ARRANGEMENTS WELL ADVANCED MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the organising committee for the Christmas and New Year Carnival was held in the City Council committee room last night, Dr. G. J. Adams presiding. “I am pleased to be able to report that matters in connection with the carnival are proceeding satisfactorily," said Dr. Adams. The wrest- ' ling and the children’s floral procession were the only events which had not yet been linalised. Copies of the * schedule had been sent to practically I every hotel south of Taumarunui with ! a request that they should be displayed in a prominent position, and a big bundle had been despatched to the Railway Department. Other copies were going further afield. To date 10,000 of the souvenir envelopes had been sold. The secretary had sent 5000 small dodgers to business and commercial houses for distribution, and a further 2000 were being sent to the secretaries of the various dairy companies for distribution to (heir suppliers. “So far everything promises well for jlhe carnival, and again I must thank the many bodies which are assisting us for their close co-operation.” said Dr. Adams. “If there was any pesM- I mism I am sure that it will have • been abolished by now. and that we can look toward the future with a | spirit of optimism.” : The programme for the combined regatta at Sandy Hook on Boxing Day was received from lhe Wanganui : Rowing Association and the Wanga- ; nui Motor Boat Club, and was adopti ed.
