“LEARN TO SWIM" DOMINION POLICY COMMITTEE PREPARES Arrangements are well forward for the coming Dominion-wide Learn to Swim Week, which is to he held from February 22 to February 27, 1937. The central committee of the three national bodies, the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, the New Zealand Surf Life-saving As ociation, and the Dominion branch of the Royal Life-saving Society, has met and has decided on the policy to be adopted. This is the first work of the nat'ona' committee, and is being carried out on the suggestion of the swimming council. The national committee is to approach the Government for full cooperation, especially of such Departments as those of Education, Health, and Internal Affairs. The Press Asso-I ciation is to be asked tor its support, and educational administrative bodies are also to be approached. It is intended to apply tor a national broadcast supporting the promotion of swimming. A circular letter is to be sent to all councils and local bodies in the Dominion, and the Postmaster General is to be asked to introduce a postmark drawing attention to the effort. Learners’ acknowledgment forms and a supply of official letterheads are to he sent to branch comm't'ees operating in each district. These committees and the bodies they represent are to undertake tuition. Branch Committees. It is suggested for the guidance of branch committees that separate hours would bo advisable for the tuition of adults and children. A schedule of instructors should be compiled, and a list of times and places where tuition will be available should be published. Branch committees are asked to solicit the fullest co-operation of all local bodies, including local administrative educational bodies, and to approach the bodies concerned tor the exclusive use of facilities by instructors and learners during such hours as may be decided upon between the local bodies and the branch committees. Raper, the well-known Auckland swimmer and former backstroke champ'on. Their marriage is to take place in February next.
