SLACK COAL
NONE BEING WASTED MINISTER’S STATEMENT ( Per Association. 1 HAMILTON, Nov. 23. I Following his visit, to the Huffily district the Minister of Mines <Ho,u. P. C. Webb) stated: "Siiv: my visit ; here I have been extremely gratified to lear.i that, not one ton of slack coal is l.cing wasted in the Waikato now. The companies through the introduction ot a unifc.m practice of adjusting s reening to a onc-mcli round mesh have br-a'ght about a saving of from 8 to 10 per cent of slack, resulting in every ten of slack now produced being required for use. In addition a number of men have been engaged with electric sh ivels in old heaps of slack coal that were dunq e l in order to keep up ’.vith the present demand. The phenomenal good year of the dairy companies is also a contributory factor in tl.is respect, but it appears that we can h.ok forward witn hope to the econom’c disposal of ill c r tn'.: coal i iedu-ed and this is wonderful news to me.”
