TURAKINA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Mrs. Knox presided over a good attendance of members on November 19. Two new members were welcomed. The report of the half-yearly council meeting in Fordell was read and a vote of thanks passed to the delegates. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mrs. Garner, of Kaitoke, and Mr. Rennie, of Turakina, for plants donated to the “Cameron'’ garden. It was decided to hold a Christmas tree for the children of the district and Father Christmas was engaged for the afternoon of December 17. A Peggy square quilt was donated by the Maori district nurse. Mrs. Parr, of Ratana School, gave a very interesting account of her trip and work in Samoa, and showed quite a number of the native curios. Mrs. Knox, on behalf of members, thanked Mrs. Parr for her instructive address. The competition for four roses was won by Mrs. Major 1, Mrs. Cains 2, Mrs. Keohane 3. Competition for soft toys, Mrs. Major 1. Mrs. R. Glasgow 2, Miss Whale 3. The meeting closed with afternoon and the National Anthem. The hostesses for December are Mesdames Black, Dowling, Evans, Misses Byers, Groshinksky (2).
