LIVE STOCK MARKETS

FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-op. in their weeklyreview of the stock market state that values for all classes of stock have been well maintained on those ruling in our last report. Weather conditions, although interfering with shearing and harvesting operations, have been ideal from a pasture growth point of view, feed abounding everywhere, the difficulty in most cases being to secure stock to control same. Production everywhere has shown a decided upward tendency and from jeturns, this appears to be general over the whole of the Dominion, an estimate of more than a 9 per cent, increase for the first quarter being given as against the same period last year. Dairy produce values on the London market have shown a decide ! firming tendency on those ruling in our last report values to-day being quite considerably above the guaranteed price and with the resuhs to hand of the sale of the first shipments to arrive Home with new season’s produce, the Government's g'rjiantecd price as far as they are concerned, shows a decidid credit, balr.ice Drafting operations are in full swing, • many graziers taking advantage of the 8?d over all weights prior to the reduction to Bid with 7:>‘d and 71d. for over-weights taking place. Values for wool continue to show an upward tenjdency indications being given of firm values ruling in this commodity during the ensuing years. Fat Stock. All classes of fat stock remain firm in value on those ruling in our last report, with a more plentiful supply of beef available. Best prime fat heifers range in value from £8 to £8 10s. Best prime fat cows from £7 15s to £8 ss, fat cows ex dairy command attention, still meeting with spirited competition wherever yarded. Fat sheep remain firm in value, an easing tendency being expected at an early date, with the large number of lambs that have gone into the works causing a more : plentiful supply of fat ewes to be available at an early date. Values for best fat ewes range from £1 to 22s with best fat wethers from 26s to 28s. Store Sheep. A keen demand exists for practically all classes of store sheep, the difficulty i being to obtain suitable quotations. Ewes for next season's requirements are beginning to command attention sales during the week including a line of 600 4-year-old ewes at 31s 3d. A larger business would be transacted in this section of the stock business if values were more in keeping with would-be purchasers’ ideas, the higher range of values now existing causing many to adopt a. wait-and-see policy. Two-tooth wethers are keenly sought. I after, sales including a line of 1800 for January delivery at 235, 1000 at 23s and 800 at 22s 6d. Quite a keen inquiry exists for 2-toolh ewes, here again the high level of values being asked making business difficult of transaction. AU classes of store cattle command attention, sales since our last re--1 port including a line of 60 4 and 5-year-old stores at £9, here again quotations being few and far between. Jersey yearling heifers continue to find favour, really top cattle being difficult to procure, with values ranging . for best fat cattle from £5 to as high ! as £5 10s, more medium sorts from £4 to £1 10s. Yarding at all centres for ; the time of year has been well maintained, as is usual, shearing and har- ; vesting operations interfering to a ' certain extent.
