STRATHNAVER’S VISIT l VISITORS FROM AUSTRALIA PARTY AT WANGANUI Sixty-four Australian tourists from lhe P. and O. tourist liner Strathnaver arrived in Wanganui early last evening during the course of a brief visit to the Dominion and will leave at 8.30 a.m. to-day for Wellington. The Strathnaver berthed at Auckland on Friday afternoon with 885 Australian tourists, the majority of whom come from Western Australia. The vessel is making her second trip to New Zealand with tourists, her first trip having been made last season. She sailed for Wellington at midnight on Friday and is scheduled to leave for Sydney at 6.30 p.m. to-day. The party of 64 tourists which arrived at Wanganui last, night left Auckland for Waitomo Caves in eight, motor-cars shortly after the vessel berthed. The night was spent at the hostel and the visitors availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting the caves. On Saturday morning the tourists proceeded on to Rotorua, where they were extended an enthusiastic welcome by the Maoris. Wairakei was visited during the afternoon, the night being spent at Lake Taupo. Yesterday the visitors lunched at Chateau Tongariro and travelled down to Wanganui over the Wanga-nui-Raetihi Road. They leave for Wellington at 8.30 a.m. to-day and sail for Sydney at 6.30 p.m. The visitors are accompanied by Mr W. A. Kilner, an officer of the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department, who stated last night that the tourists were enjoying their brief stay in the Dominion.
