SHOWER OF METEORS
NEWFOUNDLAND PHENOMENON BRILLIANCE AT MID-DAY [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Oct. 20, 6.15 p.m. ST. JOHNS (Newfoundland), Oct. 19. An investigation of reports that aeroplanes on fire were tailing into Fortune and Trinity Bays this afternoon, disclosed that a shower of meteors had fallen over the island. The illuminations were so brilliant that even at mid-day people rushed to windows. In one small settlement the residents believed that the end of the world had come. A huge ball of fire with a trail of white smoke fell in Fortune Bay, setting fire to a fisherman’s boat.
