THE TANNERY DISPUTE. EMPLOYERS’ OFFER EXCEEDS MEN’S DEMAND. [Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. “This is an agreeable surprise and I think you should accept the eraplayers’ offer in regard to skilled tanners and labourers,” said the Commissioner, Mr. M. J. Reardon, in Conciliation Council to-day, v aen an extraordinary position arose of the employers, in their counter Proposals, offering a higher rate of pay than the workers claimed. The dispute was between the Wellington Tanners’ Industrial Union o£ Workers and Messrs. Fayes Tannery, Ttd The workers claimed 2s 2d an hour for labourers and the employers offered 2s 71d and 2s 2d, respecU The employers’ offer was accepted and a complete agreement was reached on all the main clauses.
