Wanted—a Pram. A request has come from Miss Dexter for a baby perambulator for a very deserving case. If anyone could help in this matter of great need, will they please get in touch with Miss Dexter? A Presentation. Miss J. Watters, a popular member of the D.I.C. staff, whose marriage takes place shortly, was farewelled recently by the staff and presented with a silver teapot. Miss Watters has also been the guest of honour at several parties given by her friends. W.E. Lawn Tennis Club. The opening of the Wanganui East Lawn Tennis Club officially takes place to-day, Saturday, October 17. Owing to dampness no play will be permitted. Members, intending members and visitors from other clubs are cordially invited. Hockey—Soccer Dance. A combined hockey and soccer presentation dance will take place tonight in the Peter Pan Hall, when a feature of the evening will be the presentation of all hockey and soccer trophies. An excellent programme of dances has been arranged, including Monte Carlos, for which a number of prizes will be given. The popular Soprani Serenaders will play the dance numbers. Dance at Wangachu. The next of the series of Catholic dances will take place in the Wangaehu Hall on Tuesday, October 20. The Palais Dance Band, from Wanganui, has been engaged to supply the music. The usual dainty supper will be served, there will be Monte Carlos. The Catholic dances have been a great success this season and a full house is being catered for. Free buses from Marton will run, and buses will leave Martin and Vernon's, Wanganui, at 8 p.m., the return fare will be 6d. Palais de Danse. To-night (Saturday), the Palais de Danse are holding their ever popular dance in the Druids’ Hall, where a delightful programme of all the popular dances has been arranged. Big attendances are the regular thing at these dances, and reflect the remarkable popularity of an organisation which has proved itself over a number of years. You will be convinced yourself, when you come along tonight, to the best dance in the city. Excellent music, supper and Monte Carlo, together with coloured lighting effects assure all patrons of a delightful evening's entertainment. Miniature Rifle Club Dance. A very happy function held last evening in the St. John's Club Hall, Glasgow Street, was the annual dance held oy the Municipal Miniature Rifle Club. Representatives of other miniature rifle clubs and their friends were present and all spent an enjoyable few hours dancing to much-appreci-ated music played by the New Gaiety Dance Band. The joint secretaries responsible for the arrangements were Misses D. Murch and M. Winter. Wanganui East Mothers’ Union. To celebrate the third birthday of the Wanganui East branch of the Mothers’ Union the members held a social meeting, to which they invited members of other branches, including Durie Hill, Aramono and Christ Church. The meeting, held in All Saints’ Hall, was largely attended. Mrs. W. Lambert welcomed the guests and mentioned that Durie Hill Mothers' Union was two years old, Aramoho one year, and Christ Church was the big sister of them all. Several apologies were received. The programme included songs by Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Buller, with Miss Marshall as accompaniste, and a sketch, “Shame the Devil,” by Mr. and Mrs. Lambert. An enjoyable afternoon tea was served and a birthday cake cut and handed round. Children's Garden Circle. The C.G.C. held their usual fortnightly card and dance evening in the W.D.F.U. rooms on Thursday evening. As usual al these evenings a large number of patrons attended and spent a very enjoyable evening. Flag “500" was the order until 10 o'clock, when supper was dispensed, then dancing till midnight. Prize-winners were as follow: Most games, Mr. Lind; least games, Mrs. Buxton; winning table, Mrs. Hunwick, Mrs. Sieviers, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Murphy; losing table, Mrs. Holloway, Miss Holloway, Mr. Mahoney, Mr. Guthrie. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs. Mathews and Mrs. Gilbert.
