ROPE AND TWINE WORKER!

FIVE-DAY WEEK GRANTED [Per Presi» Association] AUCKLAND, Oct. 12. A 40-hour week on five days was granted to the Auckland Rope and Twine Workers’ Union when its application for a new award was before the Conciliation Council. Agreement was reached on all issues except minor wages adjustments and holi< days anti settlement is expected without referring the demands to the Court. The employees wanted wages on a weekly basis but the employers were loth to relinquish the old-established principle of paying hourly rates. January 2 and Anniversary Day were asked to be added to the eight annual holidays previously granted, but the employers were not willing to accede to this request in the meantime. Proceedings were adjourned in the hope of a sett loment being reached before a further conciliation mooting.
