WRESTLING

SAVOLDI AND DAVIS

TO-NIGHT’S BIG CONTEST DROP-KICK THRILLS. Two notable wrestlers will figure in the professional heavyweight match which is to be staged at Wanganui this evening. They are "Jumping - s oe" Savoldi, former champion of the ■*orld, and "Wee Willie" Davis, the uiggest wrestler competing in the I country at the present time. The visit to New Zealand of Savoldi, who has beaten all the leading wrestlers in America, is one of the culminating events in what has already proved to be the biggest wrestling season the Dominion has yet known, and the New Zealand Union deserves great credit for having been able to induce a man of his undoubted quality to come to this land. Incidently, this will be Savoldi’s only appearance in Wanganui, for he leaves for Australia shortly. In his matches in New Zealand, Savoldi has shown that he is the quickest, most versatile, and one of the most powerful wrestlers yet seen in the Dominion and his contests have aroused unparalleled enthusiasm. In his match against Earl McCready at Auckland, he shaded the Empire champion, both in the application of holds and in his defence, and he has maintained an unbeaten record since his arrival. Savoldi has everything that goes to the making of the complete wrestler while his many unconventionalities never fail to keep the crowd entertained. In Davis he will be mating a man who is bound to keep him fully occupied all the way. ( Davis’ great size—he is 6ft. 6in. in height and weighs about 18* stone —

| makes him a formidable proposition j for any wrestler and he also has I wrestling science developed to a high I degree. He has recently figured in i some fast and highly sensational matches and will be seen at his best I against Savoldi. j For the first hour of the programme 1 the amateurs will hold sway and th°y, too. will be of an unusually high ’ order, several good bouts having been 1 arranged. j Booking for this match is advisable, j There have been more enquiries for seats than has been the case in recent bouts, and a capacity house is assured.
