FIVE-DAY WEEK
TRADESMEN WARNED MUST NOT TARE PRIV ATE WORK [ Per Prees Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. Tradesmen who formerly worked five and a-half days a week, but who are now awarded a five-day week of forty hours, are warned by the Minister of Labour that they must not undertake work at their trade on their own account on Saturdays. Complaints have been made by employers that tradesmen, such as plumbers, are doing this. He expressed doubt whether the complaints were justified, but indicated that steps would be taken by the Government to prevent anything of the kind. He mentionea that Government servants had been included in the complaints, and said that they would be treated the same as employees in private concerns.
