OHAKEA

GIFT EVENING On Wednesday evening the hall was a scene of gaiety, when the hockey girls and the local Women’s Institute combined and held a gift function in honour of Miss M Murray, whose marriage to Mr. L. Snelgrove takes place shortly. A very pleasant evening was spent in competitions and dancing, the dance music being supplied by Mr. Feeney and H. McKinnon (accordion). After a dainty supper had been served Mrs. B. Fncklington called on Miss Murray to accept a brass fruit bowl as a mark of esteem and appreciation from the local Women’s Instil ute. Miss M. Taylor, on behalf of the hockey girl, said that she wished “Madge” every happiness for the future, and asked her to accept a water-colour picture. Mr. F. O. Bailey then conveyed the best wishes of the residents to Miss Murray and Mr. Snelgrove, and expressed regret at their leaving the district. He then asked the happy young couple to open the gifts which had been brought to them by all present. Mr. Snelgrove suitably replied on behalf of. Miss Murray and himself and thanked everyone for their gifts. All then joined in singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." Dancing continued until a late hour, when the evening closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
