FOOTBALL CLUB A meeting of the management committee of the Hunterville Football I Club was held on Monday night to wind up the season’s affairs. Mr L. K. G. Bull presided. A number of accounts were passed for payment, rhe secretary was instructed to write to Messrs D. Galbraith, J. E. Hurley, and L J. Thompson thanking them for valuable assistance. It was derided to donate £1 Is to the Pipe Band. Mr Bull thanked the committee lor its loyal support and also all a ho had assisted the club in any way. rhe club had had a successful season, being well supported by players and ihe public-, and indications were for mother good season in 1937. SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Hunterville School i Committee was held at the school on Monday night. In the absence of the chairman, Mr D. D. Sirnpson presided. Also present were Messrs D. Moir, A. R. Bull, and R. Dukeson. Arrangements were made for the children’s fancy dress ball to be held on October 9. The Health Department notified that in future the nurse would stay in Marton for the full time and arrangements would be made for a nurse to take charge of Hunterville and another district. BLIND AND DISABLED SOLDIERS On October 1. the annual sale of work to benefit Ihe funds of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind and Disabled Soldiers takes place in the Scots’ Hall. This is organised annually in Hunterville by the Women's Institutes and the W.D.F.U. and the afternoon is made most attractive, afternoon tea being served and musical items rendered. GENERAL NEWS The continuous rain experienced this month has played havoc with the roads in the county and the staff is having a busy time clearing slips in all the districts. The Watershed Road was blocked on Monday and cleared by Thursday but again blocked. Turakina Valley Road was blocked, while six slips came down in Otairi cutting. Hawtaura cutting has been blocked and Mangaonoho and Vinegar Hills were blocked with slips. There have been continual slips and washouts throughout the districts and many other roads have been blocked. There is a bad subsidence in Silverhope Bush. also.
