POPULAR MEMBER FAREWELLED The Rev. Tye and Mrs. Tye, who leave on Monaay lor Wellington, Mr. rye having Deen appointed to tne Brooklyn uhuren, were farewelled By tne Wanganui Croquet Cluo on rnursday afternoon at a garnering held in the Wanganui Bowling Ciuu pavilion. Mrs. G. A. McDougal, presiuent, welcomed the guests or Honour, and said that the members nad gathered together to bid farewell to a popular member and his wife. In presenting each witn a small gift tne president expressed the nope that they would carry away happy memories of the Wanganui Cluo and the members also hoped to hear that Mr. Tye will one day be a New Zealand champion. Mrs. Tye was the recipient of a lovely spray of flowers. Mrs. A. Crawford, as president of the Wanganui Croquet Association, expressed regret at losing Mr. Tye, who had this year been appointed referee, as he had a profound knowledge ot the rules of tne game. He will be very much missed. The club is looking forward to seeing him champion ot New Zealand. After paying tribute to the guests, Mrs. Crawford wished them every happiness and success in Wellington. Mrs. Bassett-Smith added her tribute, saying how sorry the players were to lose Mr. Tye as he had been a great help as referee, and had always been very wining to assist beginners in the game, also the generous way he had helped other players. On behalf of the men members of the club and the junior members, Mr. D. T. Allen thanked Mr. Tye for his kindness to the new piayers, and the assistance he had given with the game. Mr. Tye, in replying, referred to the time when men did not play croquet, and gave a few humorous incidents which happened in nis first years of play, and told of his experiences at various tournaments. He spoke of the good advice given nim by expert players, and mentioned several things that would be helpful to members ot the club in the playing of games. Mr. Tye said how much he had appreciated the kindness of members. He hoped to come back to Wanganui to take part in the tournament. He went on to say that there is nothing in life if there is no feeling of friendliness, and this he had found in the club, and he felt sure they would be pleased when they again met. Wanganui should be complimented on the efficiency and smooth running of its ciubs. Mrs. Tye, in a happy little speech, thanked the members for the gift, the flowers, and the good wishes expressed. There was a good gathering of members present and the committee served a most enjoyable afternoon tea. The members sang “For They' are Jolly Fellows,” and all gathered in a circle for the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.”
