MOTOR FATALITY

DRIVER’S ACTION CRITICISED [Ter Press Association] WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. "If the third driver heard a crash or scream he is nothing more than a hit and run driver, a class we are doing our utmost to suppress," remarked the coroner, Mr E, Gilbertson, at the conclusion of the inquest into the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Farghcr, aged 67, who died at the Wellington Hospital as the result of being knocked over by a motor-car driven by Weldon Edgar Francis Jeffries. Jeffries, in evidence, said that he was driving up Kent Terrace when a second car stopped to give way at a street intersection, but a third car swung out of this intersection behind the other car, causing him to swerve and strike deceased and her granddaughter, who were crossing Kent Terrace. The other car did not stop. At this stage witness fainted, but revived and was ale to continue his evidence. Another witness said that the accident was caused by a third car not giving way. A formal verdict was returned that deceased died as the result of injuries sustained when knocked over by a motor-car.
