DISCHARGE OF GUN

THREE MEN INJURED LUCKY ESCAPE AT MURCHISON [Per Press Association] MURCHISON, Aug. 24. The accidental discharge of a shotm in the main street last evening as responsible for injuries being reived by three men who were standg in the doorway of the Hampden otel. The injured persons were Mr E. Marshall, solicitor, of Murchison calp wounds and minor abrasions on ,e cheek and temple; condition satisctory); Mr G. Jones, of Lyttelton >eliet in throat), and Mr J. L. Scott, Murchison (pellet through the nose id another in the neck). None of ie injuries are serious. The accident occurred at about 6.30 clock, anti the men were standing ily thirty feet from where the gun as discharged. A party of sportsmen id just returned from an excursion, id one member was unloading his m when the cartridge exploded. Mr Scott’s glasses were broken by ie pellet which went through the ■idge of his nose, and another lodged the muscles of his neck. He was fit, iwever, to leave for Christchurch toly. Only the most fortunate circumance prevented a tragedy; had the large been an inch lower, the results ould have been fatal.
