DEATH OF SHUNTER

VERDICT AT INQUEST (Per Press Association] WELLINGTON, Aug. 14. An inquest was held to-day on George Burden Cornfoot, shunter, who dislocated his spine when stepping from an engine on August 7. Mr. Gilbertson’s finding was that death was purely accidental from injuries sustained in a fall from an engine. The driver's evidence was that it was raining hard at the time, southerly and squally. He heard a shout and saw deceased falling. The step of the tender came in contact with his neck. The acident occurred at points when the deceased would have the intention of stepping off the engine which was going at about five miles an hour. Deceased was an experienced shunter and a sober and industrious man.
